We’ve been running CoderDojo Harrogate since 2018. Our aim is to provide a friendly environment for young coders in the Harrogate area to learn and develop coding and other digital skills.
Sessions
We run various sessions according to demand and will try out new options to see what works. Your feedback is appreciated to help shape these!
Sundays @ Everyman
We currently run 2 sessions each month at the Everyman in Harrogate, on the 1st and 3rd Sundays from 10am-1pm (you can drop in/out anytime during these 3 hour sessions)
Wednesdays @ Library
These sessions are currently ON HOLD
We previously ran monthly sessions on the 3rd Wednesday of each month from 5pm-7pm but these have become less popular. We are reviewing these, working with Harrogate Library and surveying previous attendees to find out if we keep running these.
One other option under consideration is to run weekly sessions for a fixed duration, working on a set project or course, similar to Coder Club sessions but with more advanced topics. We could also look to run on a different day/time. We do really also need more mentors to help support these sessions. If you’re interested in mentoring/volunteering, please contact harrogate.uk@coderdojo.com or contact Harrogate Library about volunteering.
Hackogate
We’ve run Hackogate events in October 2018 and 2019 as part of EU Code Week. As part of these events, we’ve run extra CoderDojo sessions and even used the big cinema screen to project our Ninja’s projects onto for a big-screen show & tell experience, which is awesome! We’ll be looking to run more Hackogate events in 2020 – watch this space!
We also represented CoderDojo for the UK at the EU Parliament in 2018 where 2 of our Ninjas presented their projects and showed MEPs about the sort of coding they were learning and working on!
